How it all began

Hi! I'm Gaby Baeza. In 2016, I learned about the "Zero Waste" concept, and to be honest, my first thought was that it sounded pretty utopian. Trash is everywhere, and it seemed practically impossible to stop generating it.

Even so, I decided to try. I convinced my family to join the experiment and we started looking for ways to reduce the waste we generated in our daily lives.

The experience led me to question things I previously took for granted: why does practically everything have to be packaged?, why do we replace objects that still work?, what happens to our waste after we throw it away?, and why does producing garbage seem like an inevitable consequence of our way of life?

That experience gave birth to Project Zero Waste.

Beyond the garbage

Over time I came to understand that the problem of waste begins long before anything reaches the trash can.

It has to do with the way we produce and consume, with the products we choose, with how long they last, with their packaging, and with what happens to them when we stop using them.

I also discovered that there are many alternatives. Some are very simple, and others involve questioning deeply ingrained habits.

The Zero Waste Project was born to share that process, the things I was learning, and different ways to generate less waste and consume more consciously.

A little more about me

I've always been interested in environmental protection. I studied Environmental Science and later earned a master's degree in Sustainable Development. Throughout my career, I've worked on various environmental issues, especially those related to waste, consumption, and the circular economy.

The Zero Waste Project brings together two things that particularly interest me: understanding environmental problems beyond their symptoms and communicating alternatives that can help us relate differently to what we consume and discard.
